Owl Necklace Set.

Hey, Internet! Here's some necklaces. These are fun to make and refreshingly quick and simple compared to other things I've been doing. Like, The Project. The Project is starting to convince me it is evil. I'm not sure if me and The Project are even on good terms right now. But I digress.

The necklaces! Fun stuff. I drew teeny tiny little pictures and stuck 'em in these bezel thingies and poured in resin stuff. Yes, those ARE the technical terms. Here's the owl set:

That up there is an example of a bad job pouring resin. Right now these guys are outside with a second coat of a different brand resin, in an attempt to fix that first layer of resin.

And here's the monster set. Yay for monsters! The monsters in this picture are nekkid. Before They get covered in any of the resin goop.

These are the first things like this I've done I guess. I very likely may be doing this the hard way. Used some Mod Podge brand non toxic resin. It worked decent. But then I realized that if I want pendants that are super durable I'm probably going to have to use the toxic stuff. Plus I'm going to have to cover up that bad first try at pouring resin. They are now drying on the front porch.

(If anyone's curious or wants to try and make some of these, the first layer of resin was Mod Podge's "Dimensional magic," which is decent stuff. Not super durable after drying, but usable for pendants or earrings. I wouldn't use it on a ring or bracelet. Second try / coat of resin was "Ice Resin." I'm really hoping this stuff ends up being awesome and perfect after it's cured. Drawings done with Pigma Micron 005 pens on watercolor paper. Good to note: After pouring the resin over those two monster faces in the copper bezel, the edge of the drawing turned blue. It seems like the copper coloring bled into the resin a bit. Didn't have this problem with the brass, or silver or pewter colored bezels.)

(Oh, and also - you know that saying, measure twice cut once? That's probably good advice. Don't do what I do, which is just to eyeball the crap out of everything. Not smart when it comes to cutting out those little pictures to fit the bezels.)

So all in all these are relaxing and fun to make. Unlike The Project, who more than once has left me glaring and wanting to scream loudly with rage at piles of bent wire.

Sorry little blog for ignoring you for a month. The Project has successfully drained me of any semblance of sanity I may have had at one time. But I'm still pretty convinced it'll be worth it at the end.

I'm making little "shadowboxes." (For lack of a better name right now.) It doesn't look like much yet, but basically each little rectangle you see up there is a layer in the final piece. So when it's done, after printing it out, cutting out the little pieces, it'll have an interesting 3D-ness or depth to it. Yay! Excited to get the first one finished.

SOMEONE is apparently not so hot at that whole updating-your-blog thing.

However, I come with a bit of news! Well, news to me, at least.

So I've actually been drawing more lately. Sold a few things. Yay me. It feels good when you have not *really* drawn all that consistently for years, and then finally draw a lot for a chunk of time and are at that stage where suddenly, for the first time, you see a BIT of improvement.

Yeah, that's a pretty awesome feeling.

Starting to scan and print out drawings for shadowboxes. I want to be able to easily duplicate the different elements for the duplicate the different elements for the boxes, and be able to make more faster, yet still have each one be one of a kind. I realized I have a lot to learn about printing. Very recently I wanted to kick Twenty-Ten in the 'nads. Hard. Today, however, well, not so much. You see, I don't want to jinx anything by talking about it, but there seems to be a distinct possibility that something very good may be happening. (Although a big part of me WANTS TO TELL THE WHOLE INTERNET AND THEN OPEN THE FRONT DOOR AND MAKE SURE VERY LOUDLY THAT MY WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD IS WELL AWARE THAT SOMETHING GOOD MAY BE IN THE WORKS) So maybe Twenty-Ten and I may be able to cuddle and smooch and make up, after all.
